Thanks to one of my tweeps, @Frankvampire, in Madrid, for passing along this YouTube tape of Rudy Fernandez scoring 28 points on 10-of-14 shooting (3-for-7 on 3s) with two rebounds, four assists and two steals for Real Madrid in an ACB game.

Couple more points, I can’t let this go.
Do you really think Cuban, faced with the prospect of losing a prime year from the best player in franchise history, coming off the only championship in franchise history, is really sweating whether or not Rudy Fernandez ever suits up for him? It’s hard to imagine.
I am also curious what everyone thinks will really happen with the players overseas. We know the guys in Europe can come back and the free agents who signed in China can’t. Say we end up with half a season. Will FIBA really step in and prevent the guys in China from coming back?
Similary, will FIBA prevent someone like Rudy, who doesn’t want to come back, from continuing to play for the team he is on? When it comes down to it, will FIBA really enforce a two year ban for Rudy missing the last three months of his NBA contract? Doesn’t seem fair.
Would the NBA enforce it? Ya, probably. Would Cuban even bother? I don’t see why. Adding a malcontent to the roster of a NBA champion doesn’t exactly seem like a receipe for success and it’s not like a player with a three month NBA lifespan has any trade value.
I doubt a US court would enforce a non-compete that restrictive. A European court would never enforce it. Who knows though, maybe Rudy would rather skip out on a Euroleague championship and Tournament MVP award to go ride the bench in Dallas. What do you think?

Cuban got to see first hand exactly what he is missing. It looks much more like

Rudy doesn’t want to be in the States and doesn’t want to play in the NBA. Trust me Mavs fans, you are better with Stevenson, Barea, Butler, and Beubois taking those minutes.
