Tweet of the Night goes to Steve Nash, who agreed with his new teammate Metta World Peace in regards to how crazy the NBA could have been if twitter existed in the earlier days.
It’s safe to say that we are all in agreement with the notion that the league could have been a lot more interesting with a tool like twitter. Today’s athletes are always under the microscope for everything they do, especially when they are megastars like LeBron James, or even when you’re just a bit controversial like World Peace. If Michael Jordan played basketball in a world with twitter, the perception of his greatness may not necessarily be where it is today. He was never heavily scrutinized for the things he did off the court, and no one remembers the struggles he went through for the first half of his career. Simply put, twitter could have altered Jordan’s legacy.
World Peace brought up the topic of “what if” apparently because he wasn’t thrilled with some of the comments made towards him on twitter, which criticized him for partying too often. He used Dennis Rodman as an example to explain how hard the wild forward partied, yet it never stopped him from attaining five championships. World Peace definitely has a point there, and it’s a shame that he can’t enjoy his offseason without unnecessary criticism, but there is a way for him to avoid it: don’t share everything you do on twitter.
