ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported on Thursday that the Los Angeles Lakers may go after LeBron James in 2014 when he is eligible to become a free agent, and apparently, word has gotten around to James’ current teammates.
Power forward Udonis Haslem took to twitter to share his thoughts about the rumors, stating that James isn’t going anywhere because he is “Dade County certified”. Of course, he didn’t mean anything literal by the statement, but that particular defense is not the most compelling either way. Perhaps Haslem forgot about his former teammate Shaquille O’Neal, who actually became a reserve officer on the Miami Beach police force soon after he joined the Heat. That didn’t stop the big man from eventually becoming the Big Cactus, though, and if someone told Haslem at the time that O’Neal would not remain with the Heat for the rest of his career, he probably would have said “that man is a certified police officer here”.
Jokes aside, Haslem is probably right: James isn’t likely to go anywhere after his contract is up – especially after winning his first championship with the team. But can we ever really know for sure when it comes to King James? If the Heat fail to win another championship over the next two seasons, who knows? If there is one player that can shock the world with an unexpected move, it’s the man that infamously took his talents to South Beach.

Yeah uh huh and once upon a time he was a home town boy that was never going to leave, we all saw what happened after that. As a Lakers fan I want nothing to do with this guy but to insult us by saying that it’s never going to happen, you seriously need to inform yourself. Because by the summer of 2014 the Lakers will still have Nash, very likely have Howard and can offer any superstar top dollar. Oh yeah and lest we forget L.A. is the entertainment capital of the world, here he’ll get 10x as many endorsement and opportunities that he could have ever gotten in Miami.
