As promised a few pages ago, here are the details about our one-day fantasy tournament at FanDuel.
There’s a $2 entry fee; a bargain to take a shot at $1,000 in prize money. First place wins $200, second $125, third $100 and there are a total of 61 cash prizes. Pick nine players within a $60,000 salary cap and the team that compiles the most fantasy points — on October 31st only — wins.
Players are eligible at only one position. For example, David Lee is a C, not a PF. You need two PG, two SG, two SF, two PF and just one C for a legal lineup. You don’t need to be a math whiz, the software tells you if you’re over the cap, or how far under.
Your lineup can (and mine will) change right up to the 7:00 Eastern deadline on Hallowe’en. The headings of Stars, Scrubs and Starters are a way to list various options by price range. Building your team is a lot of fun. For now, I’m using two Scrubs (Ezeli and Motiejunas) which allows me to spend between $6,800 and $8,500 on my other seven players. Replacing a $3,000 player with someone more expensive to beef up my PF spot means a compromise at one or more other positions. The process is a bit like trading in traditional leagues.
Scoring is simple. PTS = 1, REB = 1, AST = 1, BLK = 2, STL = 2, TO = -1 and no other stat categories matter. That’s a slight premium on blocks and steals, with no penalty on missed shots. In other words, Dwight Howard or Josh Smith (to name two BLK/STL specialists) can’t hurt you at the free-throw line, only with turnovers.
You can enter up to five times, and you can win multiple prizes. If you need a test drive, click on the FanDuel logo. It’s completely free to join and no credit card is required. You can join a free NFL league today. If you like the format as much as I do, you can deposit as little as $10 via PayPal and enter our tournament, along with other NBA leagues beginning October 30 and continuing well into the playoffs.
They even have a money-back guarantee: “If you don’t love FanDuel after playing your first $5 or $10 contest we’ll give you a full refund. No questions asked.”

Oops. As one old NBA fan to another, thanks for catching the brain cramp.
I’m sure Chris Sheridan, the former AP writer extraordinaire, would agree; take time to read your copy before hitting the send button.
Lakers coach is Mike Brown; not Mike Scott
Lakers and KIngs played Fri. night in Vegas; tonight they are at the Staples Center.
