It certainly wasn’t pretty, but the North Carolina Tar Heels have managed to right the ship. Once believed to be on the outside looking in, UNC has fought their way back into the NCAA Tournament after losing in the ACC championship.
So what should you know about the Tar Heels?
1. On February 13, the North Carolina Tar Heels fell to an unimpressive 16-8. Many believed their NCAA Tournament chances to be dashed and their season to be lost. Fortunately, the Tar Heels have bounced back by winning eight of their past 10 games.
2. When point guard Kendall Marshall left for the NBA after the 2011-12 season, many expected there to be a void at point guard. Collectively, UNC has overcome Marshall’s facilitating absence and ranks second in the nation in assists per game. Marcus Paige’s 4.7 dimes per game and Dexter Strickland’s 4.1 are a major reason why.
3. The North Carolina Tar Heels like to push the pace. They rank first in the nation in field goals attempted and third in field goals made. Fortunately, they also place 14th in points per game.
4. Despite James Michael McAdoo’s star power, Reggie Bullock has emerged as the star of this team. He has proven to possess a soft touch from beyond the arc and truly embodies the moniker of a “stat sheet stuffer.” The ACC rewarded him for such efforts with an All-ACC second team selection.
5. They may lack supreme size, but the UNC Tar Heels are an elite rebounding team. They rank 13th in total rebounds per game and 10th in offensive rebounds per contest. With an up-tempo offense, this is the perfect way to make an NCAA Tournament run last quite some time.
