The Wisconsin Badgers have become the most overlooked power in the Big Ten, despite finishing the regular season at 21-10. After downing both Michigan and Indiana, however, Wisconsin reminded the world of their status by reaching the Big Ten Championship.
While there, Wisconsin WON/LOST. The question is, what should we know about Wisconsin for the upcoming NCAA Tournament?
1. The Wisconsin Badgers are the nation’s 10th ranked scoring defense. They’re 39th in opponent field goal percentage, 28th in opponent three-point field goal percentage and sixth in opponent free throw attempts per game.
2. Jared Berggren is the heart-and-soul of the Badgers. They’re 17-5 when Berggren scores in double-figures and 6-5 when he fails to. That’s a major reason Berggren was second-team All-Big Ten.
3. Wisconsin has gone to overtime in three games this season, including a 74-70 double-overtime win over Iowa. In that time, they’re 2-1 and own wins over the Hawkeyes and Michigan Wolverines. All three of those overtime games came back-to-back-to-back.
4. Ben Brust and Traevon Jackson are one of the nation’s truly elite scoring tandems. At 40.1 percent from beyond the arc, Brust can shoot in any situation. His half-court buzzer-beater against Michigan proved such. Jackson, meanwhile, owns two game-winners—one against Penn State and another against Minnesota.
5. During their past 10 games, Wisconsin is 7-3. They own two wins over Michigan, one over Indiana and a 22-point domination of Ohio State. They’ve also lost by double-digits to Purdue and Michigan State. Boom-or-bust?
