In our 6 O’Clock News, we shared a report about the surprising unrest in the Los Angeles Clippers locker room. Here’s the quick recap:
“DeAndre Jordan is growing restless with Vinny Del Negro and his inconsistent distribution of minutes. Moreover, in Sacramento, Griffin and Jordan had a heated exchange on the bench. Simmers writes, “Griffin told Jordan he best never again stare him down as he did when Griffin failed to give Jordan a good pass for a dunk.” Moreover, the piece alleges that Griffin and Jordan are both growing tired of Chris Paul’s relentless demands on the court.”
The supposed drama is surprising because of how good the Clippers have been this season, at least when you look at the big picture. They’ve won 50 games, which is something the franchise has never done in its history. That alone makes them the most accomplished Clipper team of all-time. They’ve all but wrapped up the Pacific Division crown, and will have home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
But then again, those were things they expected to accomplish coming into the season. The Clippers felt they had enough talent and depth to be true contenders to win the championship, and it was hard-pressed to argue against the notion. That said, they have gone 8-8 since the beginning of March – hardly the record of a contender. If you ask any of the bottom four teams in the Western Conference who they’d want to face in the playoffs right now, they’d probably go with the Clippers. Considering the recent times of frustrating results, you can understand why players are not in the best of moods.
Going back to the topic at hand, though, how true are the rumors of unrest in the Clippers locker room? If you ask DeAndre Jordan, maybe not much:
