Carmelo Anthony sure seems to be enjoying the month of April.
The New York Knicks star forward has been on a run unlike anything he has ever been on in his career over his first three games since the calendar turned away from March. In fact, he is on a run that only two players in the last 30 years have been on in terms of scoring the ball, as described by Jalen Rose below:
To be a little more specific, Anthony has averaged 43.7 points on 64.2 percent shooting over the last three games. We’ve seen scoring runs better than this before, but not at the rate of efficiency that he has displayed. Not from Kevin Durant. Not from LeBron James. This is one ridiculous streak that any fan can truly appreciate.
It was a pretty good night to continue his dominant streak, too, as plenty of legends like Phil Jackson and his personal idol Bernard King were in the crowd in Madison Square Garden to celebrate the Knicks 40th anniversary of their last championship team. The greats of the past got to witness the ridiculous shooting display provided by Anthony.
King actually held the record for most consecutive games with 40 points in franchise history with three, which Anthony tied on Friday night.
Anthony’s shooting wasn’t the only thing to continue for the Knicks, who have now won a season-high 11 straight games. Despite missing some key players due to injuries, the team that most have forgotten about in the East appears to be hitting their full stride just in the nick of time.
