Nate Robinson had been bouncing around the league for eight seasons now, always a popular player wherever he played – but never being a stable enough player to stick around very long.
He is currently on a one-year, veteran’s minimum contract with the Chicago Bulls, and he will be an unrestricted free agent as of July 1.
And when the free agency signing period begins, N8 may finally get papered (NBA parlance for getting paid).
Robinson’s performance was astounding Saturday in the Bulls’ comeback triple-overtime 142-134 victory over the Brooklyn Nets for a 3-1 lead in their first-round series.
He scored 34 points in 29 minutes before fouling out in the final extra period, and the Bulls outscored the Nets by 19 points when he was on the floor. It was the kind of performance that can turn a $3 million player into a $5 million player, and do not be surprised if NaterTot is able to wrangle a two- or three-year deal out of a new team. Robinson is currently ranked 9th in our latest free agent rankings, which you may peruse as you listen to this podcast.
More on Robinson and the Bulls’ incredible comeback victory in this discussion with Peter Brown of YahooSportsRadio.

Not mentioned was how lucky Robinson was. He had so many lucky baskets, that missed the rim by so much that he it hit the backboard and went in. He also was luck the Nets have an awful coach who has no sense. He refused to use Keith Bogans to cover him, mostly because Keith was having a confidence problem on offense. But mostly he is lucky that he even got a chance to get hot at the end of the 4th quarter and beyond do to PJ’s incompetent coaching. PJ played his BFF, Reggie Evans for 50 minutes, even though he was too slow and not tall enough to stop the Bulls from scoring in the paint. Meanwhile, Andray Blatche who every single time he has been used extended minutes with Brook Lopez, has played well, was not used by PJ. Nets couldn’t score inside in last 3.5 minutes after securing a 14 pt. lead, with Lopez alone and the Bulls collapsing inside with Reggie in the lineup. PJ should have been demoted back to Asst. Coach after that coaching debacle (has been going on all season), besides most of the players are angry with PJ. They likely won’t have what it takes to win game 5, unless someone else makes the coaching rotation decisions. Billy King who just received a 3 year extension (and has some limited coaching experience) should be taking over for the remainder of the playoffs.

Nate Robinson is the luckiest player in the playoffs. The guy should have been thrown out of the game for attempted to start a fight with CJ Watson, by pushing him about 30 feet into the sidelines. Nate previously has said to the media that he hates Watson. During the play, CJ (who had gotten tangled up by Nate), wisely refused to fight back other than hold up his arm in defense. CJ likely knew that it was stupid to get drawn into a fight. The Refs, even after watching the replay, refused to set an example to punish Nate’s activity and throw him out of the game. Instead, the cowardly refs in Chicago gave a technical to both players. It was a despicable display of referees favoring the home team. Its not the first time Robinson has done this unpunished. He will continue to behave this way if not severely punished.
This was not the first time such an incident wasn’t pushed by the Refs. Rajon Rondo did a similar act against the Nets in Boston, but at least he received mild punishment.
