Some of the most laughable moments in the internet are those where pop culture and classic cinema combine to make an image that is beyond hilarious.
Denver Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson painted that picture Thursday.
The picture that comes to mind (seen on the left) is that of Grammy award-winning rapper Kanye West wearing the velvet suit and top hat of Willy Wonka, complete with the unkempt blonde hair of Gene Wilder [from the original film, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory].
The visual provided is quite ridiculous…and funny.
So, what’s the story behind this Wonkaesque idea?
West has collaborated with Nike to create his own designer shoe, the Air Yeezy. The first iteration of the Air Yeezy sneaker sold for $245 retail. The shoe was a limited release. Since, a single pair of them has been sold on eBay for $90,300. That’s a lot of scratch!
The announcement was recently made that the new Air Yeezy 2 red colorway will release June 18th, 2013 and will be limited to only 1,000 pairs.
To be fair to all potential buyers, West is rumored to be including 1,000 tickets in his forthcoming new album, Yeezus, that will enable ticket holders the opportunity to purchase one of the limited pairs of the new sneaker.
The new album will will debut on the same day as the new red kicks, June 18th.
If the rumors hold true, you may want to get in line for the new album should you have any hope of getting the red sneakers.
