Tuesday marked the deadline for teams to make use of the amnesty provision and release a player without their salary cap being affected.
As explained by our own Chris Bernucca, the Miami Heat have opted to use the provision to release veteran small forward Mike Miller.
The move was not without notice.
Heat All-Star shooting guard Dwyane Wade shared his sentiments on Twitter.
@m33m maybe gone but will NEVER be forgotten…thanks 4 an amazing 3 yrs…you will be missed in the locker room by your brothers..#LetItFly

The Heat informed Miller’s agent Monday that they would be releasing him.
Miller responded to the news with thanks.
I want thank the Heat organization, my teammates and the fans for an amazing run #TrulyBlessed

Miller, who signed for the mid-level exception in 2010, helped the Heat get to three consecutive NBA Finals. He was a key contributor to their back-to-back NBA championships.
Miami, which still has their mid-level exception this year, may use it to sign players to build out its roster and add depth.
One player many expect to get strong consideration is center Greg Oden.
