Hello and welcome to the Evening News.
As free agency continues, we’ll keep you updated every evening.
What’s happening today?
Nuggets sign Nate Robinson to a two year contract
After failing to sign Monta Ellis earlier in free agency, the Denver Nuggets have found a cheaper and (slightly) more efficient alternative in Nate Robinson.

Robinson had a career season with the Chicago Bulls in 2012-2013. He averaged 13.1 points and 4.4 assists in only 25.4 minutes per game. Robinson elevated his game even further in the playoffs as he became Chicago’s go-to scorer at the end of close games. He averaged 16.3 points over 12 playoffs games.
With Derrick Rose coming back from injury and with Kirk Hinrich and Marquis Teague already on the roster, the Bulls simply did not have the cap or rotation space necessary to re-sign Robinson.
For the Nuggets, it remains to be seen what Robinson’s role will be exactly. With Ty Lawson and Andre Miller returning, Robinson will realistically be playing off the ball more than he has in the past.
Earlier in free agency, Robinson was disappointed with the lack of teams pursuing him:
As he told NBC Chicago, “It’s frustrating because you put in your hard work. I worked my butt off year in and year out, ever since I was a little boy, to get to this point now, not to be signed. But at the same time, I’m not going to let that discourage me of being who I am, just working hard. I want people to understand and know Nate Robinson is that player who’s going to play his heart out, no matter what, good or bad.”
Mavericks hire Gersson Rosas as GM
Mark Cuban’s front office is about to get bigger:

Cuban has been looking to add an analytically-savvy executive to his front office. Rosas will be coming from, perhaps, one of the most statistically-focused organizations in the entire NBA.
At only 35, Rosas has the reputation of being one of the league’s brightest young minds. According to Wojnarowski, Rosas will be given significant authority to make personell decisions in free agency and scouting.
When asked about the hiring, Cuban sounded happy:
On ESPNDal radio Cuban says new GM Gerrson Rosas will report to DNelson: “Gives us 1 more smart person to help us make smarter decisions.”

Time will only tell how Rosas manages to deal with Monta Ellis’ woefully inefficient numbers.
