Monday the Boston Celtics announced the signing of two players, one being Orlando summer league sensation Phil Pressey.
The other; international center Vitor Faverani, who at 25-years-old is older than the typical NBA rookie.
Faverani, a native Brazilian who played for Valencia Basket in the Spanish ACB league last season, is a 6’11” center. His addition to the Celtics’ roster gives them a true big man to play down low in the post.
As with most basketball players, the opportunity to play in the NBA is a dream come true for Faverani.

Faverani was eligible to enter the NBA draft in 2009, but was not selected due to his immaturity—according to an Eastern Conference scout who spent extensive time with him.
He was not drafted because he was very immature and did not take the game seriously. He could not be trusted. He has done a lot of growing up, both on and off the floor, and has turned the corner, so to speak.”
Last season, he averaged 9.3 points and 4.6 rebounds in only 17 minutes over a span of 23 games for Valencia Basket. His ability to shoot the ball will enable Boston to use him in the pick-and-roll and will force opposing defenders to move out of the lane.
His offensive skills are still considered raw, but that shouldn’t be a problem for a team that has removed itself from playoff contention to rebuild its roster.
