Tweet of the Night: Andre Drummond excited about playing pickup games with his team

For the up-and-coming 20-year-old center Andre Drummond, the past summer has been quite eventful.

For one, he was able to use his star power on twitter to lure in mega-Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy. She actually wrote an article about how the two ended up dating each other, and it is well worth a read.

Then, of course, there is the basketball side of things. After going through a tough rookie season in which the Detroit Pistons struggled to a 29-53 record, he saw the the front office turn the corner over the summer by landing Chauncey Billups, Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings – three critical pieces that will make the team look drastically better heading into the upcoming season.

Best of all, Drummond showed tantalizing potential in his first season in the league and is expected to do bigger things in his second season. Contrary to scouting reports, he was far from a “project” and showed great maturation as a 19-year-old. He averaged 7.9 points on an astounding 60.8 percent shooting, 7.6 rebounds, one steal and 1.6 blocks in just 20 minutes of play. To be clear, those are pretty frightening statistics for someone of his age. The center also dominated the competition in NBA Summer League, and doesn’t have to worry about doing too much, too early for a team that suddenly has enough talent to bring him along at his own pace. Offensively, he is still in the developing stages, but can finish with the best of them. With capable passers like Smith, Monroe and Jennings by his side, Drummond likely won’t have to create too much for himself. He has already shown a tremendous upside on the defensive end, as his 2.8 blocks Per 36 Minutes was good for 10th best in the league.

On Wednesday, he tweeted the following to show that he and his teammates are starting to gather to begin preparing for the season:

Indeed, exciting times lie ahead for the promising young center.
