When the Los Angeles Lakers lost their prized center Dwight Howard to free agency, they didn’t wait long to find a replacement, signing Chris Kaman to a one-year deal just a few days later.
In Kaman, they have a completely different type of talent – one that has the potential to thrive in a wide-open offense like Mike D’Antoni’s. He has a wide range of weapons, including various post moves and a reliable jump shot. His playing time has been spotty over the past two season with the New Orleans Hornets and Dallas Mavericks. Given a more definitive role, Kaman still has the ability to be one of the better offensive centers in the league. Paired with a motivated Pau Gasol in the frontcourt, the two could make for a very intriguing duo in the upcoming season.
As for Kaman’s involvement with fans on twitter, he has been noticeably absent – he broke his silence on Thursday for the first time in nearly two months. Here is his explanation on the prolonged hiatus:
Sorry for taking such a long hiatus from u! I wanted to get away from everything and focus on my work outs! But I am ready now! #LAKERS

He then gave away a signed basketball for one lucky fan:

It’s good to see that the center was focused and dedicated in preparing for the season. Life should be much easier for him with willing passers like Steve Nash and Gasol feeding him the ball. Health willing, Kaman could enjoy what may turn out to be one of his better seasons.
