News broke Monday that Shaquille O’Neal had bought a minority stake in the Sacramento Kings.
While some may question the move, considering Shaq’s past battles with the Kings in the early 2000s, Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson is onboard.
Congrats to former Laker and 4x NBA Champion @SHAQ on becoming a minority owner of the Sacramento Kings!

Owner @SHAQ will help DeMarcus Cousins become a better player and a great leader for the Sacramento Kings!

Speaking of O’Neal helping Cousins develop, Kings majority owner Vivek Ranadive hosted O’Neal and Cousins at a dinner party Monday night.
Good food, great company, balmy evening =great dinner party @SHAQ @boogiecousins pic.twitter.com/vvWWsO87tE — Vivek Ranadivé (@Vivek) September 24, 2013
One of the Kings’ players has given his stamp of approval. Sacramento guard Isaiah Thomas plans to pay homage to the team’s new minority owner on opening night by donning a pair of his classic Reebok sneakers.
The future of the Kings appears to be in good hands with Ranadive and his ownership group. Adding Shaq to the mix serves only to harness the potential and help bolster the skills of their budding young center in Cousins.
With all that Mayor Kevin Johnson and many others did to contribute to retaining Sacramento’s NBA franchise, let’s hope that the Kings’ future is as bright as the hope that rests abides in each of their fans.
