The greatest figures in the sociopolitical past of our nation have their legends etched not only in our history books, but also in our calendars—Martin Luther King, Jr. and George Washington are among the most notable.
Such honor is not bestowed upon the best entertainers in our nation’s history, but it doesn’t mean that they cannot be celebrated.
Celebrate is exactly what NBA free agent guard Richard “Rip” Hamilton did Thursday.
Remembering Tupac Shakur, known by his rapping monickers (2Pac and Makaveli), Hamilton embarked on listening only to the legendary hip hop artist’s music.
Shakur is widely regarded by many as the greatest rapper of all time.
He released five albums (2Pacalypse Now, Strictly for My N*****, Me Against the World, Thug Life: Volume 1, and All Eyez On Me) before his untimely death September 13, 1996 at the young age of 25.
Since his death, his vast collection of unreleased music has since resulted in seven posthumous albums (Makaveli – The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, R U Still Down? (Remember ME), Until the End of Time, Better Dayz, Loyal to the Game, Pac’s Life and Still I Rise—with the Outlawz).
Hamilton did stop at favorite songs, he went on to ask his followers for their favorite Tupac quotes.
There are so many classics in Tupac’s vast music library, it’s hard to narrow the list down to a single song. Still, just as Hamilton’s first Instagram post suggests, Pac was the “#TheRealist.”
A great example of his genuineness has to be “Shed So Many Tears” from the Me Against the World LP.
Every day is a great day to remember great musicians and enjoy their work.
Take some time to join Rip Hamilton in listening to some of Tupac’s greatness and remember to pour out a little liquor for him.
