Are the New Orleans Pelicans taking the league by storm?
It’s only preseason, but they are undefeated thus far with a record of 5-0 after beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 105-102 on Thursday. Four of those games have been on the road, and all of them went down to the wire – the largest margin of victory was four points against the Orlando Magic.
October is the time when teams experiment and try combinations with players that will seldom see any playing time in the regular season, and that’s provided they even make the team. The Pelicans have largely played without Tyreke Evans and Eric Gordon in these contests, which means what they’re doing now is not indicative of how they will look in the regular season. Still, it’s always a positive to walk away from a contest with a victory and the Pelicans are doing plenty of that up to this point.
Gordon played for the first time this preseason and looked sharp in doing so, scoring 21 points on six-of-nine shooting from the field. Given how great Anthony Davis has looked so far and the overall makeup of the team with Jrue Holiday and company, the Pelicans may have enough talent to contend for a playoff spot in the upcoming season – something they haven’t done since losing Chris Paul.
Here is Gordon’s reaction after the contest:
Great team win!!!
