The Los Angeles Lakers have plenty of question marks heading into the season-opener on Tuesday with Kobe Bryant’s unknown status. One less thing they have to worry about is the status of Chris Kaman, who has missed some time in the preseason due to ill-effects of a nasty stomach virus. The center feels well enough to play, and went as far as to say that nothing can stop him from going against the Los Angeles Clippers, his former team:
Well let’s just say I am glad I don’t have to spend most of my day in the bathroom anymore! #SalmonellaPoisoning

Nothing is going to stop me from being on the court for the game opener! #Lakers

Kaman was believed to be the starting center alongside Pau Gasol when he was signed over the summer. However, Mike D’Antoni has talked up the idea of playing Gasol at his natural position at center and having the offense go through him, which then makes more sense to play Shawn Williams at power forward to provide better spacing. It is unclear if D’Antoni will eventually start the two big men together, but his initial plan is to start Gasol and Williams while bringing Kaman off the bench to start the season.
