In today’s news, Tyson Chandler will be forced to sit out for at least the next month with a fractured right fibula. Meanwhile, in Houston, Patrick Beverley is feeling good after returning earlier than anticipated to the Rockets.
Tyson Chandler out 4-6 weeks
The Knicks announced Wednesday that Tyson Chandler will miss the next four to six weeks as he rehabilitates a fractured right fibula.
Chandler sustained the injury after colliding with Kemba Walker in the first half of yesterday’s 102-97 loss to Charlotte.
Fortunately for the Knicks, Chandler didn’t sustain any ligament or nerve damage and will be able to avoid surgery.
The 2011-2012 Defensive Player of the Year had looked very strong in the first four games of the season. Chandler recorded five blocks against Milwaukee in the season debut and followed up that performance with a 19 rebound game on the road in Chicago. Still, the Knicks are just 1-3 on the season.

The 31-year-old Chandler will be missed. The Knicks plan to slot a combination of Andrea Bargnani, Kenyon Martin, Amar’e Stoudemire and Cole Aldrich in at center while the All-Star recovers.
Mike Woodson told ESPNNewYork.com’s Ian Begley:
“All we can do is nurse [Chandler] back. It’s going to be a four -to six- week process and then welcome him back with open arms, because at the end of the day he is a big piece to what we’re doing. He was the reason why we had the success we had in the last two seasons and we are going to need him in a uniform soon.”
Patrick Beverley “pain free” after early return
Despite being diagnosed with a partial tear in his midsection on October 30, Patrick Beverley returned to the court yesterday in Houston’s 116-101 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
Beverley was originally expected to miss about two weeks with the injury. Still, he played effectively in 29 minutes of action, scoring 12 points and grabbing four rebounds.
Beverley won the starting point guard position over Jeremy Lin in training camp and is expected to reassume the position once he returns to full strength. As for how he felt after the game, the 25-year-old sounded satisfied:
Pat Beverley said he was pain free in his 29 minutes. So much for easing him back in.
