After Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose was forced to leave the game early after getting hurt Friday night against the Portland Trailblazers, many feared the worst. Fortunately for Rose after undergoing an MRI early Saturday, the results revealed he did not suffer another torn ACL. The injury was however identified as a medial meniscus tear in his right knee that will require surgery.
Derrick Rose has proven to be one of the more accomplished stars of his time, as he was the youngest player (22) in NBA history to win the MVP award. His fast rise has since been halted due to a series of setbacks and delays, as Rose has only played in a total of 50 games not including the preseason since his historical MVP season.
After the results of Rose’s MRI were reported, players from around the NBA such as Dwayne Wade and Kevin Love among others took to Twitter to offer their support for the former MVP.

There is no specific time table when it comes to returning from an injury of this magnitude. Rose could potentially return to action within two months, but may very well miss the entire season. Considering the way he treated his ACL recovery time that kept him out of action the entire 2012-13 season, it is very possible that Rose elects to miss the remainder of this season as well. Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook suffered the same injury last April, and returned a month earlier than expected.
Despite the loss of their franchise player, the Chicago Bulls return to action Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles against the Clippers.
