Not even a quarter of the way into the season, the Minnesota Timberwolves are making moves.
In an effort to find a better fit for Rick Adelman’s rotation, the Wolves have shipped forward Derrick Williams to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for defensive specialist Luc Mbah a Moute.
It could be said that Williams was being underutilized in Minnesota. Over the last 10 games, Williams made seven appearances, averaging 3.6 points and two rebounds in just over 10 minutes per game.
On his way out of the door, he took time to show gratitude to the team that drafted him second overall in the 2011 NBA draft and its fans.
Thank you to the Minnesota Timberwolves organization and the fans for everything. I’m excited for the new opportunity in #SacTown #Kings !

Minnesota forward Chase Budinger made sure to wish his teammate and fellow Arizona Wildcat farewell.
Tough losing a player on your team. We still wildcats for life @RealDwill7. Good luck in Sac

Heading into California’s capital, Williams seems to already have a new fan.
Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs, who is originally from the Sacramento area (and coincidentally also from the same college), was quick to welcome Williams to his hometown team.
Welcome to my hometown (@SacramentoKings) fellow @UofA alum @RealDwill7! #BearDown

Hopefully Williams has found a home in Sacramento that will give him a place to grow and further develop his game.

Several weeks before Christmas, Minnesota is dumping a guy picked second in the entire draft in exchange for a guy from Cameroon. And two years from now, several weeks before Christmas, Cleveland will be dumping a guy picked first in the entire draft in exchange for a can of macaroons.
