The New Orleans Pelicans got a big win in New York Sunday night. They defeated the reeling Knicks, 103-99 to improve to 8-8 on the season after a disappointing 3-6 start.
But despite the big win to climb back to .500, the Pelicans may have suffered an even greater loss. Anthony Davis left the game in the first quarter and has been diagnosed with a fractured hand. He did not return. The Pelicans were able to hold on behind 31 points from Ryan Anderson and 24 points from Tyreke Evans. Anytime you can get 55 points combined from two of your bench players it’s going to help.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RT @BourbonStShots: Anthony Davis suffered a “non-displaced fracture” in left hand and the timeframe to return is TBA.

We just did a scientific study and Pelicans basketball is only 61% as much fun to watch without Anthony Davis.

The Pelicans resurgence has come behind the immense leap of one Anthony Davis. The former No. 1 overall pick has become a force in his second season, averaging 19.6 points, 10.6 rebounds and a nearly four blocks per game, good for a PER of 28.35 which is second in the league behind only LeBron James. And LeBron has been in a league of his own these past few seasons, so really, Davis is leading the NBA in PER.
This update from Ian Begley of ESPN.com.
It is unclear how long Davis will be sidelined.
Davis suffered the injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the New York Knicks.
He went to the bench with 1:32 to play and did not return.
Davis has established himself as one of the top young players in the NBA in his second year in the league.
Entering play Sunday, he led the NBA with 3.9 blocks per game. He also averaged 19.6 points and 10.6 rebounds per game for the Pelicans (7-8).
It won’t be easy for the Pelicans without Davis as they will face the Bulls, Mavs and Thunder next week.
