Dennis Rodman appears to have made good on his promise to field a team of ex-NBA players for his trip to North Korea to play basketball in honor of Kim Jong-Un’s birthday, from which we can surmise that we now know exactly which ex-players will do absolutely anything to make money. Even if it means traveling to the country with the worst human rights record on the planet.
Rodman’s team includes Kenny Anderson, Vin Baker, Doug Christie, Craig Hodges, Clifford Robinson and Charles D. Smith. The game is planned for Wednesday, and Hodges has already departed the Canadian team he coaches.
This deserves some commentary. Politics and basketball usually don’t mix, but this case is different.
Kim Jong-Un is batso crazy.
And he’s sitting on a bunch of nuclear bombs. Even the Chinese are scared.
Just my opinion as an American, but Rodman’s trip is shameful. (Unless Jackie Christie is on a secret CIA snuff mission).
There is no place for positive p.r. masking as “diplomacy.”
If anything, we should call attention to the fact that North Korea is believed to be holding 200,000 political prisoners, and let’s not forget that 3.5 million North Korean citizens starved to during the 1990s. Worst place on Earth? Hard to argue in anyone other country’s favor.
Anyway, on a lighter note (or not), he’s a big basketball fan, this young Mr. Kim.
And he sure does know how to execute his enemies.
In his recent purge and execution of his uncle, the end was especially gruesome. He was reportedly stripped naked and fed to a pack of 120 dogs who had been starved for three days, along with five of his aides. The whole process lasted is reported to have lasted an hour, and as they were eaten, hundreds of officials watched.
Other favored execution methods employed by Kim include death by mortar round, and death by a firing squad using anti-aircraft artillery rather than common rifle bullets.
No penalties have yet been disclosed that would be facing the members of Rodman’s team should they end up on the losing side of Kim’s wager.

Thanks for this. Far too many people are trying to make light of, or even condone, this situation. My grandfather spent 15 years in a NK gulag – Rodman is either blind or crazy. I’ve lost any respect I might’ve had for any of these players. Insane that their handlers would think this was a good idea for any of them.

I’m surprised Alan Iverson didn’t go. He needs the money.
I thought you need 12 players for a team?
Then you could call them “The Dirty Dozen”.
