NBA on ESPN analyst and Grantland editor in chief Bill Simmons maintains many titles: writer, fan, Los Angeles Clippers season ticket holder, husband, dad, among a few others.
Among the many hats that he wears, he is an avid Boston Celtics fan.
If you’ve followed his blogs or read his book, you know that he has been a big Celtics fan since he was a child—when his father would take him to the old Boston Garden. While still maintaining his Boston NBA roots, since he’s moved to LA he has become a Clippers supporter.
His father, however, still maintains both his residence in the northeast and his status as a Celtics season ticket holder. This led to an interesting dialogue that Simmons shared via Twitter—along with his own analysis—regarding Wednesday afternoon’s three-team trade in the NBA.
So @wojyahoonba is reporting the Celts traded Jordan Crawford to GSW. Good heat check guy for GSW. More importantly – Ronddddddddoooooooo!!!

My dad: “I liked watching Crawford, he played hard. We turned him into some 2nd round picks and helped Miami? Oh great! That trade sucked!”

My dad: “You’re 3,000 miles away, you don’t care. Im a season ticket holder, I’m the one that has to watch Phil Pressey + Joel Anthony now!”

Hidden subplot to watch from that NBA trade: Miami now has the extra roster spot and a little extra $$$$ to roll the Andrew Bynum dice.

PS: Miami couldn’t carry Anderson/Haslem/Oden/Anthony/Bynum… With Anthony out they can sign Bynum and just waive Mason’s cheap contract.

It’s really hard not to side with his dad. As the elder Simmons states, Bill is on the other side of the map and too busy with ESPN stuff to care about what’s really going on with Boston.
[Side note: I’m really glad that I don’t have to watch Phil Pressy and Joel Anthony.]
Involved in the trade were the Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics. Our own Chris Sheridan broke down the specifics of the trade earlier today (link below).
[Sheridan: Three-Team Trade Analysis: Warriors Win Big; Celtics Will Stink Even More]
Golden State sent guard Toney Douglas to Miami—who sent center Joel Anthony and two draft picks (a lottery-protected Philadelphia 76ers first round pick and their own 2016 second round pick) to Boston. The Celtics, in turn, send guards Jordan Crawford and MarShon Brooks to the Warriors.
Take a look at Sheridan’s analysis and let us know what you think of the trade.
