Monday the NBA announced the Players of the Week for the past seven days. This wouldn’t normally be tweet-worthy news, but this week saw a veteran player get the honor for the first time in over seven seasons.
Just announced: @paulmillsap4 of the @ATLHawks (21.3ppg, 7.3rpg) & @KDTrey5 of the @okcthunder (38ppg, 8.7rpg) named NBA Players of the Week

For the 16th time in his career—fourth time this season alone, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant was named Western Conference Player of the Week. Given the scoring tear that he has been on, that should come as no surprise.

On the other hand, Atlanta Hawks forward Paul Millsap received the honor of Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the first time in his career. That’s not simply because this is his first season in the Eastern Conference, he has never been Player of the Week in either conference.

Coach Bud on Millsap’s Player of the Week honor – “It’s a huge compliment for him, It’s great for him personally and great for our group.”

Millsap has been huge for Atlanta’s continued success, a 3-1 record last week, especially in light of all of the injuries that the Hawks continue to battle through—Al Horford, Pero Antic, Jeff Teague and more.
If the Atlanta Hawks are going to maintain their continued success and remain among the four top teams in the Eastern Conference, they’re going to have to rely heavily on Millsap, who the team has taken to calling “Do-it-all Paul.”
