Determined to single-handedly revive the dreadful season of the New York Knicks, Carmelo Anthony has been on a scoring tear since last Wednesday, pouring in an average of 41.3 points over his last four games.
Only one of those games have resulted in a victory for the Knicks, though, and the trend of losing despite a huge scoring output from Anthony continued on Monday against the Dallas Mavericks. Anthony scored 44 points on 14-of-29 shooting from the field and added nine rebounds and four assists to help keep his team in the game against the Mavericks, but Dirk Nowitzki had the final laugh despite scoring just 15 points on six-of-13 shooting to go with one rebound with a game-winning dagger at the buzzer:
The improbable shot caused team owner Mark Cuban to celebrate the only way he knows how:
Best part of owning a team , running out on the court after a game winner !!! @swish41 What day is it !!!

The win put Dallas up by half a game in the standings over the idle Phoenix Suns for the seventh seed in the West.
For the Knicks, it was another crushing blow that put them six games behind the Atlanta Hawks for the eighth seed in the East. Anthony never looked more dejected after watching Nowitzki’s miraculous shot fall through, but he at least had some good company after the game:
Hardest working man I know. Managed to make him smile even if for a second tonight @carmeloanthony http://t.co/ddbKGwedLg
