LeBron James has been all over the internet for the past 24-hours.
Thursday night, as he and the Miami Heat hosted the New York Knicks in what became a 26-point home victory, the internet was all abuzz over the carbon-fiber mask he wore to protect his broken nose. The mask drew comparisons to all sorts of popular characters: Zorro, Hannibal Lector and, of course, Batman.
The mask garnered so much attention that someone started a Twitter account for it. There were tons of creative photoshops [my personal favorite] passed around social media networks and even a t-shirt design.
After the game, Chris Bosh took the mask for a spin, claiming to be Batman—though he looked more like a creepy version of the Phantom of the Opera.
Friday afternoon, after the chatter had died down a little, LeBron got in on the action himself.

The accompanying Instagram post reads:
Always wanted to save Gotham City from the corruption, criminals and untrustworthy that brings the city down! #SuperHeroThoughts #SignalInTheAir #ImBatman #StriveForGreatness”
Unfortunately for fans, the NBA—Nearly Boring Association, put the clamps on the fun, insisting that James switch to a standard clear face mask.
Apparently, Adam Silver, Rod Thorn and the other NBA decision makers are lacking the creative vision to see how they can capitalize on the popular phenomenon that is LeBron’s mask—merchandise sales. Officially licensed NBA black masks (made with inexpensive plastic) could sell as quickly as, say…Jason Colliins jerseys? Maybe not. But, it could sell. Oh well, that is their loss.
Carrying on…
Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon tweeted LeBron, thanking him for dropping in to film a musical skit for the show. The bit was basketball related—of sorts.
My thanks to LeBron (@KingJames) http://t.co/dBzLjnpo7e#nomask

James, of course, quoted Fallon, wishing him well.
“@jimmyfallon: My thanks to LeBron (@KingJames) http://t.co/N4OXbvbjMl#nomask“(No problem! Have a blast and thank u as well. Best of luck)

To cap off the day, one of James’ favorite activities: cycling.
Critical Mass tonight Miami!! Let’s Go!!! #BikeLife #StriveForGreatness
— LeBron James (@KingJames) February 28, 2014
Miami Critical Mass was the happening event for the day. For those who are unfamiliar, Critical Mass is a mass following of self-propelled citizens (predominantly cyclists) following a 12-18 mile path through the city. There are very strict guidelines for participating, such as maintaining a 12mph speed.
Once again Critical Mass was amazing!! Only Miami can do this. #BikeLife #StriveForGreatness http://t.co/sug9jMuZes

After a busy day like that, one should wonder if the Miami Heat superstar takes time to wind down and relax before knocking out at night.
