Tuesday’s contest between Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors was supposed to be something of a showdown – a dog fight – between two teams trying to establish their position to ensure that they make the playoffs in the insanely-competitive Western conference.
Instead, the Mavericks looked lifeless for much of the night and suffered an embarrassing 108-85 loss to the Warriors, who have now won five consecutive games to gain a firm three-game lead over Dallas and the Memphis Grizzlies in the standings. The Grizzlies, who were out of the playoff picture just a week ago, are now percentage points ahead of the Mavericks for the seventh seed after their impressive 109-99 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, while Dallas has a mere one-game lead over the Phoenix Suns for the eighth seed.
Jae Crowder, who missed the contest against the Warriors due to an abdomen injury, wasn’t pleased with what he saw out of his team and could only urge them to play better on twitter:
COME ON FELLAS… FIGHT!!

Things only got worse, however, and they shot just 36.6 percent on the night against the stifling defense of Golden State. The Mavericks will play two more games on the road before going back to Dallas for a whopping eight-game home stand, where they are an impressive 21-10.
