In what should have been a quiet Saturday evening around the NBA, was anything but as news spread that Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd has permission to speak with the Milwaukee Bucks about a potential role. The news was first reported by Tim Bontemps of the New York Post.
After denying Jason Kidd’s demand to oversee basketball operations, Nets have given Bucks permission to speak to him: http://t.co/vVxb7YxkGn
The news comes as a surprise for several reasons, the most glaring being the fact that Kidd just completed his first season ever as a head coach, and is under contract with Brooklyn for the next three years.

With the news having come out, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports elaborates more on the matter.
In pursuing exit to Milwaukee, source tells Yahoo of Jason Kidd’s ambitions: “He wants the Doc and Pop role (there). Running everything.”

More that inspired Kidd power play — Steve Kerr, Derek Fisher hired at higher pay grade. “That got him — especially Fisher,” source said.

Nets had been working w/ Kidd on roster changes he wanted – thru free agency, trades, sources tell Yahoo. He didn’t want voice, but power.

If there is any truth to these sources, then it’s hard to picture a scenario where Jason Kidd remains the coach of the Nets for too much longer. Despite only having one year of coaching experience under his belt, Kidd did lead his team to a playoff appearance before being defeated by the Miami Heat. Still by seeking a promotion that grants him more of a say in Front Office decisions, Kidd may have overstepped his boundaries. If his days with the Nets are indeed coming to an end, it will still remain to be seen what role he would take with the Bucks. The presumption is that he is not looking at a coaching position, but a role as their president of basketball operations. With nothing officially set in stone this could turn into a very intriguing situation.
Jason Kidd has deep personal and professional ties with new Bucks owner Marc Lasry, and hiring him to run franchise is a real consideration.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) June 29, 2014
If Brooklyn parts ways with Kidd, they will have an opening for head coach that will need to be filled. There are several prominent names already floating around such as George Karl and Lionel Hollins, but until an agreement between the Nets and Bucks is made one can only speculate.
Two names Nets will definitely consider as next head coach: Lionel Hollins and George Karl. I wouldn’t assume Mark Jackson.

It should be noted that whoever replaces Kidd as coach will be the fourth head coach in less than three seasons for the franchise since it’s move to Brooklyn.

Other related news is that Billy King and Kidd haven’t been getting along too well lately.
King had recommended a new coach at end of Dec.
The news also makes Lawrence Frank look like a good guy. He’s under a long term contract with Nets.
Hope they let him out of the dog house.
Also, it should be noted that John Welch, currently Nets head Asst., was the Assistant for George Karl for 8 years. Karl makes the most sense, to right the ship quickly. Only question is whether he will make demands for a management role.
Its expected that Paul Pierce will re-sign, but its important that Kidd favorite, Shaun Livingston, isn’t scared away with this news.
