Over the past season with the Brooklyn Nets, Shaun Livingston surprisingly proved to be a very valuable commodity as a combo-guard on both ends of the floor.
He had the unique ability to see plays develop with the ball in his hands – something he always had coming into the league as an 18-year-old – but perhaps more importantly, showed that he is a little too tall (6’7″) and long (wingspan of 6’11”) for most guards in the NBA to handle. Livingston shoots at the apex of his jump, making it virtually impossible for shorter players to contest the shot, and his mid-range game proved to be a deadly weapon when given the opportunity:
For his accomplishments with the Nets, Livingston has been awarded a sweet deal by the Golden State Warriors, according to Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today:
He did that last season and now the Golden State Warriors rewarded him with a three-year, $16 million deal, a person familiar with the agreement told USA TODAY Sports. The person requested anonymity because the deal had not been officially announced. The third year of the deal is partially guaranteed, with the deal including $13 million in guaranteed money in all.
This is terrific news for both Livingston and the Warriors, who have been searching for a reliable backup point guard since losing Jarrett Jack to free agency last summer. It has been a long journey for Livingston, who suffered the infamously gruesome leg injury that all but robbed him of the first half of his career.
He will now have a chance to grow with an excellent group of talent, and shared his excitement about joining the Warriors:
His soon-to-be teammate Andre Iguodala was ecstatic after hearing the news:
@ShaunLivingston you rollin… Or nah??? Don’t play with my emotions…
