In a story that has seemed to get little attention Thursday, Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell collapsed while speaking at a corporate event in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
Russell, 80, has made a second career out of public speaking since retiring from basketball with 11 NBA championship rings. Understandably so, as many companies greatly desire the “team” concept amongst their employees.
He was reported to have been feeling faint throughout the event before collapsing. He did, however, remain conscious, and was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.
An employee at the event tweeted about the incident.
Prayers for Bill Russell, he just collapsed on stage while speaking to our company. #shocked

Atlanta Hawks CEO and part-owner Steve Koonin took to Twitter to wish Russell well.
Bill Russell is a legend of our game as well as a legendary person. Prayers from the @ATLHawks family for a speedy recovery #BillRussell — Steve Koonin (@SteveKoonin) July 17, 2014
The Celtics have stated that Russell is “feeling better.” Boston CBS affiliate WBZ-TV is reporting that he is expected to fly back to his Seattle home later Thursday evening.
From all of us at Sheridan Hoops, we hope that Russell will remain in good health and make it safely home.
