If you hadn’t heard already, troubles in Iraq, Gaza and Ukraine aside, there is an extreme amount of unrest here within our own American shores.
In the small city of Ferguson, Missouri, an unarmed 18-year-old young man, Michael Brown, was shot and killed by a police officer over the weekend. In the days since his ill-fated and untimely death, no charges have been filed against his shooter.
If you’re looking to catch up on the events in Ferguson, USA Today has a timeline chronicling most of what has happened.
The news, as jarring as it is and has been, has had its profound affect on many Americans, not the least of which also includes some in the National Basketball Association. Thursday, Matt Barnes and Kendall Marshall each commented on the situation.
Here’s the text accompanying Barnes’ Instagram post:
Say what you must about what’s going on 2day.. You think #FergusonPolice department is the only department with a disparity in numbers like this? #WeHaveToStopKillingEachOther #wegottastoplettingcopsgetawaywithmurder #STL #MikeBrown #TravonMartin & may god bless you & the many young men lost daily in this game we call #LIFE”
Marshall first alluded to the President Barack Obama’s afternoon press conference, wherein he addressed the situation in Ferguson — only after updating Americans on the progress being made in Iraq, though it’s doubtful that many Americans, especially in the south, think Iraq is of greater importance.
what did Obama say today about Ferguson?

The President seemed to express concern and stated that he had begun taking action.
This morning, I received a thorough update on the situation from Attorney General Eric Holder, who’s been following and been in communication with his team. I’ve already tasked the Department of Justice and the FBI to independently investigate the death of Michael Brown, along with local officials on the ground. The Department of Justice is also consulting with local authorities about ways that they can maintain public safety without restricting the right of peaceful protest and while avoiding unnecessary escalation. I made clear to the attorney general that we should do what is necessary to help determine exactly what happened and to see that justice is done.”
However, the FBI had already announced its intentions to launch a parallel investigation on Monday. The Justice Department’s civil rights investigation made news yesterday. So, as far as progressive action, there is nothing new. Of course, this information was nothing new to Marshall, which led to him answering his own question.
soo nothin really?

Hopefully, the tension in Ferguson will settle soon, Brown’s killer will be formally accused, charged, tried and brought to justice, and the Justice Department’s review of police tactics and use of force will yield change.
