The worst kept secret in the NBA in recent weeks has been the pending deal between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The two teams reached an agreement in principle to trade All-Star forward Kevin Love for Andrew Wiggins, who was drafted with the number one overall pick this year.
While the specifics of the trade have shifted to now include a third team in the Philadelphia 76ers, for the most part its been a set deal. The reason the trade has been held up is because of the rule that prevents Andrew Wiggins from being traded for at least 30 days after signing his rookie contract.
With all of that being public knowledge, it came as a shock earlier this afternoon when news broke from ESPN that the Phoenix Suns made a late attempt to trade for Love.

The Suns have been exploring potential trades for restricted free agent Eric Bledsoe. It’s been reported that Bledsoe is looking for a max contract from the team, and has rejected their previous offer of a four year/ $48 million extension.
It is understandable why the Suns would want to get a deal done and not risk losing Bledsoe next summer for nothing, but the timing of this proposal was a shot in the dark at best. The original trade between the Timberwolves, Cavaliers, and 76ers is still in expected to proceed and now the Suns are forced to find another solution to their problem.
