Tweet of the Night: Team USA cuts roster size to 12, players react

James ParkWith Team USA preparing to leave for Spain on Saturday, it’s decision time for Coach Krzyzewski and Jerry Colangelo on the final 12-man roster.

Our Chris Sheridan predicted the following players to be cut from the roster: Gordon Hayward, Kyle Korver, Chandler Parsons and Damian Lillard.

We already know that Hayward is the first to be unofficially cut from the team, according to Marc Stein of ESPN:

 

 

2013 USA Basketball - ChicagoThere is still some uncertainty as to who may get the axe. It was widely assumed that Andre Drummond was a long shot to make the team, but the center made his presence felt against the Dominican Republic team, making the coaching staff think twice about cutting him off. Still, his inability to make free throws and the tendency to get lost at times against the pick and roll on defense could favor Parsons, who has the ability to play two positions if necessary.

While Derrick Rose remains somewhat of a question mark due to health-related issues, he remains a clear favorite of Coach K’s and played well off the bench on Friday against Puerto Rico. That, of course, means Damian Lillard will have a tough time making the team. Analyst Fran Fraschilla said Mason Plumlee was a lock to make the team during broadcast on Friday. Does that mean one of the bigs – DeMarcus Cousins or Drummond – will get left off? We will know soon enough, but according to Stein, Cousins was mighty confident about making the roster when all said and done:  

Assuming Rose sticks, I’d have to agree with Sheridan on who gets cut from the final roster.

  1. Surprised that Parsons was cut. I thought he would make it over DeRozan or Drummond since he played the most minutes among them plus he can play both forward positions.
