Thursday is always an interesting day for social media because you never know what you’re going to see for #ThrowbackThursday. NBA players and teams are among those posting funny, embarrassing, or serious photos from their past, and it’s always fun.
Los Angeles Clippers forward Matt Barnes was among those with a fun #ThrowbackThursday post. In a photo he posted to his official Instagram on Thursday, he begins to make jokes about a picture of his family from the 1980s.
In the caption, Barnes described how his father was wearing a Michael Jackson Thriller-like shirt, as well as poking fun at his own wardrobe.
But further down in his comments, the tone of the post changed. Barnes uses the hashtags #RIPMom and #F***Cancer. His mother died from four different types of cancer in 2007.
His mother’s death led Barnes to Athletes vs. Cancer (AVC), which he founded that same year. His organization brings athletes and celebrities together in helping raise money to find a cure for cancer.
Earlier this summer, the organization hosted its Second Annual Athetes vs. Cancer Celebrity Flag Football game to help raise awareness and money for this cause. Clippers teammates Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan were there, to name a few.
On Thursday, Barnes was as generous as usual. This photo is also taken from his official Instagram.
The photo shows Barnes with representatives from Teen Cancer America, as well as the UCLA Medical Center. Teen Cancer America is a non-profit organization that aids and helps young adults and teenagers who have cancer live better lives.
It’s good to see those in a position with the ability to help do so as much as they can for a great cause. News broke last week that Derrick Rose donated $1 million to After School Matters, a non-profit organization that creates out-of-school programs for teenagers. Good for you, guys.
