If you saw last Friday’s Photo of the Day, you’ll notice the same trend as Monday’s. It’s the 2013-14 NBA MVP Kevin Durant with a cast on his right foot.
But, joining him for a photo today is rookie teammate Mitch McGary. The power forward was the Oklahoma City Thunder’s first first-round draft pick at 21st overall, playing his college ball at the University of Michigan. McGary ultimately entered the 2014 NBA Draft after failing a drug test when he tested positive for marijuana while playing at Michigan and facing a one-year suspension from the NCAA.
So, with the suspension looming, McGary took his talents to the NBA Draft. He played two seasons at Michigan, the last of which before entering the draft was injury-plagued.
The Thunder were hoping to avoid such injuries, but they were quickly tarnished last week when the rookie broke his second metatarsal bone in his left foot during a preseason game against the Denver Nuggets. McGary finished the game with 14 points, four rebounds and two assists. He is expected to miss about six weeks of action.
Kevin Durant, after his surgery last Friday, is trying to make the best of their unfortunate situation. He posted this photo to his Instagram on Monday.
Durant captioned the picture with “Scooter boys. #GetOutMeCar”.
As an NBA fan, you want to see them get back to good health, and quickly, especially if you’re a Thunder fan. But, I also want to watch them race with on their scooters. I’m pretty sure that would be just as entertaining as watching them on the court. Trust me, I know someone with one, and watching them navigate and try to turn corners is quite entertaining.
The “Scooter boys'” absence from their team greatly effect their chances of earning a high seed in the Western Conference playoff picture. However, the Thunder are a young, fairly deep team. Perhaps you’ve heard of Russell Westbrook?
Westbrook, Jeremy Lamb, and Reggie Jackson will look to keep OKC afloat in the talented West while Durant and the rest of the team are out with their injuries.
