This is now year two since Dwight Howard bolted the Los Angeles Lakers to join James Harden and the Houston Rockets. The center and Kobe Bryant never really showed much tension towards each other since the fallout, but that changed in a big way on Wednesday in the season opener on TNT.
With the Lakers down by more than 20 points and the game pretty much out of hand in the fourth quarter, Bryant tried to steal the ball from Howard who had just grabbed a defensive rebound. Howard started swinging his elbows recklessly before connecting on Bryant’s chin. From there, the two started jawing at each other and perhaps let out some of the frustration they felt towards each other while they were teammates:
We’ll let the lip readers take over from here:

It would have been all fun and games if things ended there. Unfortunately, things got really ugly when rookie Julius Randle suffered a fractured tibia – as reported by Rachel Nichols of TNT – while attempting to get a shot off as he jumped in the air.
One opening-night loss can be swallowed, but the loss of Randle is a devastating blow for the already-thin Lakers bench. Aside from the basketball aspect, it’s sad to see such a young player suffer a devastating injury as he did. Hopefully the power forward will go through a speedy recovery period and come back as good as new.
The players that were having fun with the Bryant-Howard drama saw the unfortunate injury to Randle and reacted as seen below:
Injuries suck don’t wish that on anybody

I definitely hate Dwight, as a Magic fan, but anyone who is saying this was Dwights fault is a huge Kobe homer/ Dwight hater.

I saw incident live, and Dwight didn’t even deserve a foul, much less a Technical and Flagrant I.
It was all Kobe’s fault, with his team losing, he Assaulted Howard, physically and verbally.
Dwight was just doing what he was supposed to, and kept the ball (and his attached elbows) high in air, looking for an outlet pass. Kobe instead of backing off, literally put his face in Howard’s space, which is why Kobe was called for a foul, and then a Technical.
Truth is that Dwight never wanted to go to LA, because he knew what type of Dominant Bully Bryant was. Its not commonly known (because neither ESPN nor Woj reported it), but back in March 2012 (as the NY Post’s Fred Kerber reported), the ORL front office threatened to trade Howard to the Lakers, if he didn’t sign the 1 year extension. Howard wanted to be traded to the Nets, (for Brook Lopez), or to go there in the Summer, as an unrestricted FA. Between that threat and false promises to Howard, he changed his mind and signed, at the trade deadline. That was a decision he would deeply regret.
Regarding Randle, if Bill Simmons knows what he is talking about, Billy King will be gladly trading Deron Williams to the Lakers, for trash, just to get rid of his contract (per Grantland). Of course Simmons is a Joke (and wrong most of the time) and if Lakers really desire Deron, they will have to forfeit Randle. With the broken leg, its not so far fetched to consider soon. Deron is in great form, now that his ankles are pain free and getting stronger.
