Thanksgiving isn’t for another week or so, but NBA teams are jumping the gun when it comes to the best part about the holiday: the feast. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons are two teams that hosted events featuring players and members of the organization.
The food is great to have, but most would agree that being around family and friends celebrating Turkey Day is the best part. It’s important for those who don’t have the luxury of having a hot meal and loved ones around them to experience that feeling, especially during the holidays.
The Cavaliers served dinner and drinks to 250 homeless families at a local restaurant in the Cleveland area. The families are involved with the CMSD Project ACT program, which give support to those families and children living in temporary housing due to economic hardship of loss of housing.
Kyrie Irving posted this photo to his Instagram on Tuesday.
“Another year at the Q carving turkey. S/o to Chef Rodney. Great night!!”, Irving captioned under the photo.
Irving, Dion Waiters, Anderson Varejao, and Kevin Love were among the players who donated their time for the event.
The Pistons held a Thanksgiving event of their own on Tuesday, serving food to around 700 less-fortunate guests. Andre Drummond posted this to his Instagram on Tuesday.
He couldn’t help himself. He just had to take a selfie with the crowd.
Drummond, along with Brandon Jennings and other players, attended the event, as well as volunteers and the Palace of Auburn Hills personnel, which was where they held the dinner event. Forgotten Harvest, a non-profit organization, hosted the Thanksgiving celebration.
Remember, be thankful for what you have, because things can always be worse.
