Portland Trail Blazers center Robin Lopez broke his hand in a victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night. It is the first time he’ll sit out of an NBA game in nearly three seasons.
He is, however, taking the injury in stride. He took to Twitter Tuesday to express his gratitude for all of the well-wishes and prayers and unveiled his plan for recovery.
Thanks for all your thoughts & support! It'll be 6 or 7 weeks til I'm on the floor again thanks to this bum hand. Can't wait!!! #NeverSayDie

Disney movies and Thai food. Sounds like there will be a lot of Frozen and scorched tongues going on over the next six or seven weeks.

Tweet of the Night: Boris Diaw Explains Why the Game Against Portland Was Difficult

Are the Blazers willing to take Brook Lopez in his place? Brook is available to play next week. Unfortunately, salaries don’t match. I believe that coach Hollins would be much happier with the more defensive minded Robin.
Also, how would Robin know his timetable, before even meeting with the hand specialist? Is he having surgery or not?
Other players have had fractures in the hand and came back sooner, especially if surgery wasn’t required. They can wear a protective glove, while the fracture continues to heal. Paul Pierce only missed 5 games after a broken hand early last season. He just wore a protective glove and didn’t listen to the training staff. Few players have the authority to ignore medical staff recommendations. Kobe is another.
