Remember when NBA team logos were fun and colorful? Like the Seattle Supersonics or the old Phoenix Suns logos? That was when jerseys looked best, back in the ’80’s and ’90’s and even into the 2000’s, with the logos embroidered with pride right on the front.
Possibly the best jerseys out there were the Raptors uniforms with the big red raptor dribbling a basketball on them, which Toronto has worn this season, in my opinion.
Take a look at the new logo and tell me what you think, and especially if it rings any bells from other NBA logos.
The Brooklyn Raptors? The Toronto Nets? I don’t see the difference anymore.
The photos were unveiled by the Raptors via social media and a press release detailing the logo and the style of their future uniforms on Friday afternoon. To no surprise, fans apparently had mixed reviews on their team’s new look, from Josh Rubin and Eric Andrew-Gee at The Toronto Star:
“To be honest, it reminds me of Brooklyn,” said Tristan Rivera, echoing other sentiments found on social media.
“Not sure how to feel about new @Raptors logo. Needs some color. Clean but entirely too Brooklyn,” tweeted Varand Khachadouri.
But Friday’s unveiling was merely the launch of the new logo — new uniforms will be released in early summer, said officials from the team and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.

“When you see the whole thing, it’s actually nothing like (Brooklyn). Our colours stay the same.”
One fan heading to the Friday road game liked it.
“I think it looks more strong, like clawing into the ball,” said Totis Pellew.
The Brooklyn Nets had a little something to say about the logo as well, via they’re official Twitter account:
.@Raptors Looks familiar

To me, those saying it looks too similar to Brooklyn’s logo aren’t wrong at all.
It is eerily similar, and just as boring.
For a franchise that has an internationally famous rapper as its ambassador, I expect nothing different. It might look stylish or classy, but it certainly isn’t cool, nor is it original.
Sorry Toronto, this is a huge fail. Seriously, what’s wrong with the raptor logo or even the claw from this season?
