There can, at times, be a rather contentious relationship between the media and the superstars that it covers. Some times, it may be warranted. Others, perhaps not so much.
Former ESPN NBA writer Chris Palmer seems to have earned the ire of Kevin Durant over the years, in large part for his polarizing opinions.
Tuesday, Palmer had another opinion to share.
Dude who averages 3 pts & 3 rebs gets 2-year/$8M extension. No wonder they won’t make the playoffs.
— Chris Palmer (@ChrisPalmerNBA) February 3, 2015
Palmer is referring to the news that the Oklahoma City Thunder signed Nick Collison to a two-year, $7.5 million fully guaranteed extension.
Just earlier in the day, Thunder All-Star and reigning league MVP Kevin Durant congratulated Collison for the news.
Congrats Mr. Thunder, such a honor to play alongside you @nickcollison4
— Kevin Durant (@KDTrey5) February 3, 2015
However, upon learning of Palmer’s comments, Durant responded harshly to the criticism.
@ChrisPalmerNBA means a lot coming from a dude who got fired for being a dumbass
— Kevin Durant (@KDTrey5) February 3, 2015
Of course, the specific details pertaining to Palmer’s departure from ESPN are not public, though InsideHoops.com did suggest that Palmer’s contract had ended and was not renewed.
Nevertheless, the reigning MVP seems to harbor some very strong feelings toward the long-time NBA writer. Palmer addressed Durant, suggesting his information (likely about his release from ESPN) was incorrect.
@KDTrey5 Love that you got your teammates back. But you should get your facts straight. — Chris Palmer (@ChrisPalmerNBA) February 3, 2015
Durant may have a legitimate gripe, as the market for serviceable big men in the NBA is not an exact science, even if Collison’s numbers seem tragically low. However, Palmer’s response has more legs to stand on, as the terms of his release from the four-letter network seem amicable, from what is known.
Anything else is likely speculative rumor, unless Durant has insider information.
