Jasikevicius seems to have discovered the fountain of youth back in his homeland, and it was never more evident than in the fourth quarter as he scored 11 of his 17 points in the final frame while running the offense with as much aplomb as he did 11 years ago at the Sydney Olympics when his team became the first opponent in the Dream Team era to take Team USA down to the final buzzer. It happened in the semifinals of that tournament, and Jasikevicius was an unstoppable force four years later in Athens when his barrage of 3-pointers led Lithuania past Larry Brown’s Nightmare Team in the first round of the 2004 Olympics.
Jasikevicius made it to the NBA with the Indiana Pacers and Golden State Warriors but never got a chance to be the floor general he had been for his national team, and he landed in Greece and then Turkey in the past two seasons of what seemed to be a career that was winding down.
If it is indeed winding down, he is saving some of his best for last.
Jasikevicius also had four assists and four rebounds, Valanciunas scored 15 points with two blocks in just 18 minutes, and Lithuania held an exhausted-looking Nowitzki to 4-for-17 shooting in both teams’ final game of the second round.
Lithuania finished third in Group E and will play the second-place finisher from Group F — whichever team loses Monday’s match between Russia and Macedonia.
Spain won the group by defeating France, and Serbia finished fourth to also advance to the quarterfinals beginning Wednesday in Kaunas.
The second round will conclude Monday as Finland plays Slovenia for fourth place, Greece plays Georgia (a win will lock up 3rd place for the Greeks), and the two teams with 4-0 records — Russia and Macedonia — play in the nightcap for the right to avoid the Lithuanians, their rabid fans, their rejuvenated old point guard and their new young stud who will be headed to Toronto to play for the Raptors once the NBA lockout ends.

It’s part of the buyout — he’ll play one more season for his club team in Lithuania. Probably for the best, as Jonas will be bigger and stronger before facing NBA bigs every night. I have already drafted him in fantasy keeper leagues; hope he’s worth the wait.
