Those of you who have been reading this site regularly know my answer — yes.
But everybody has an opinion, and I encourage you to vote in the poll on the top right side of this page. After you vote, you will see the percentage results for “yes” and “no.”
Andrea (Italy) says
Yes, I expect the season to start on time. As long as league, owners and players meet by Monday.

I expect that the season will start on time because the season should start on time. I never bought the league’s argument that they were so sorely impoverished as they claimed and it seems that the fan backlash would be seriously counterproductive even if we leave out all the doomsday scenarios involving decertification and year-long court battles.
The owners’ histrionics in all of this have been very disappointing. The deal they’re likely to cut could have been made months ago. There was no need for any of this.
Klown Harris says
Nope. I’d be surprised if the season started before Feb 1st…

It better get sorted and fast! I booked my flights already from Scotland to SFO for the warriors v NYK and Nuggets.. They’re non-refundable so Mr Stern and/or Billy boy can cough up if I need to cancel! Mercenary? Who? We Believe :))

I didn’t specifically buy planet tickets for a game but i’ll also be in california in december for business for the first time in 4 years so i’ll be pissed if i can’t see an NBA game the one time i’m in the states!
Alexander says
i”m flying in from germany
Andrea (Italy) says
I’m making plans to get tickets for the Nets/Magic doubleheader in London. So yeah let’s start this thing already.
noti says
of course I tend to lean more on players because they are the one who is generating the nba revenue, but at the end of the day, this is the battle of rich vs richer
Karl says
Players will go for something like a 51% split with it going up in the later years after the tv deal. Are the owners smart enough to take the cash and start the season?
Gregel says
If the owners are really sticking to this 48.5% I can see us having no season at all.
S. Sebastian says
I won’t be surprised if there is a surprise announcement of a tentative agreement early next week.
Joe says
I hope the owners stick it to these dopes. Funniest thing in the world is a dumbass basketball player trying to act like they are bussinessmen ..PLease!!!!!! who the fuck tells the fucking owner of a company that they should get more than 50% of the profits….that is right nobody. It is laughable that they were allowed to get away with this for years wake up all boys…….I hope they lose the entire season if it means fixing the Lebron problem
Let the season start says
any pro athlete takes more than 50%
Shem says
Joe’s comment is a little bit ignorant. First of all there are a lot of NBA players who are far more refined than you might think. Secondly, the players don’t get more the 50% of the profits they to take home 57% of the gross revenues, which is something completely different than profits. People who are demonizing the owners or the players as being ignorant or greedy are overreacting at this point. This is a business negotiation and both sides are simply doing exactly what they should be: trying to get the best deal they can. Now, once a large number of regular season games are lost, then I think the players are simply shooting themselves in the foot because they will be losing more money with the games they give up than the value of any higher split they might eventually negotiate. This is especially true when you consider that the owners have more leverage and greater ability to wait missed games out.

I’ve got a problem with the “this is what they’re supposed to be doing” concept. What moral imperative is compelling David Stern to be so thoroughly dishonest to the fans? The way you talk about it makes leads one to believe that straightforward honesty is shockingly sinful.
Just because you can get away with something doesn’t mean it’s what you’re “supposed to do.”
It’s not like I don’t understand that this kinda crap is what happens; it just irritates the hell out of me when people suggest that unfettered self-interest is in some way morally compelling.
Mike says
Good to know you are both uninformed and ignorant. For the first half of your comment I couldn’t tell which.
Andrea (Italy) says
“I hope they lose the entire season if it means fixing the Lebron problem”
Which LeBron problem exactly? LOL
LeBron is not the reason of the lockout. Focus on the crazy contracts some owners gave to players who ended up warming the bench, not on LeBron who’s one of the players driving TV ratings, merchandise sales, tickets sales etc.
Geez.
brgulker says
Nope. And I hope the players don’t give.
