I went on the radio with longtime colleague Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel this morning to talk about the NBA lockout. We touched on how his local team , the Magic, would benefit the most (along with Portland) from the amnesty provision that will reportedly be part of the eventual NBA collective bargaining agreement.

Under amnesty, the Magic would be allowed to dump the $63.5 million they owe Gilbert Arenas from their salary cap over the next three seasons, including Arenas’ $19.2 million for this season. That would take their committed payroll down to $55 million (excluding cap holds) and give them the flexibility to retain free agent Jason Richardson and stay below the luxury tax threshold.

Great insight on this Chris.
So they would still have to be committed to pay the salary right, but the only thing is that it doesnt count towards the salary cap?
