From Ken Berger of CBSSports.com:
“Under the league’s amnesty proposal, sources say teams would be able to waive a player and have up to 75 percent of his contract removed from the cap and tax, with the remaining balance amortized against the cap over the number of years left on the contract. The player would still be paid 100 percent of the guaranteed money owed; this would be an NFL-style cap management tool to help teams adjust to the new system.”
From Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:
” The two sides are nearing a compromise on the annual midlevel exception starting at $5 million with annual raises over three years. … The owners also are proposing a “bonus pool” of money for high-achieving young players with performance-based incentives. Under the proposal, players would be rewarded for winning Rookie of the Year and making All-Star teams and other accomplishments.”
From Page Six in the New York Post:
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was out in New York on Monday night to drown his sorrows over the NBA lockout. Cuban, whose team is hanging in limbo awaiting a decision on the season, came into Southern Hospitality in Hell’s Kitchen to meet with two beautiful blondes, friends from Dallas. A spy tells us that at one point, a fan approached his table and said, “I sure hope the season starts soon, Mark,” to which Cuban raised a shot glass of whiskey and responded, “I’ll drink to that.”
Ken says
“Under the proposal, players would be rewarded for winning Rookie of the Year and making All-Star teams and other accomplishments.”
I thought the idea was to give more money to smaller teams and less money to big teams ? Doesn’t this do the reverse ? (As all small market fans who have seen their players fail to get awards can testify.)
It also seems to give automatic payments to Chinese players. 🙂
