On March 20, 2003, the United States invaded Iraq. On Dec. 18, 2011, the last American troops withdrew.
And during that entire time, the Los Angeles Clippers never won a game in Utah.
The last time the Clippers won in Salt Lake City was Jan. 2003. They will be riding a 16-game road losing streak to the Jazz when they visit Wednesday night.
LA doesn’t do too well vs. Utah at home, either. The Clippers have lost 10 of the last 11 meetings overall. This one is the middle game of a back-to-back-to-back set, and they will be without injured point guards Chris Paul (strained hamstring) and Mo Williams (sore right foot).
Those injuries didn’t slow down the Clippers on Monday as Chauncey Billups assumed the lead guard role and scored 20 points in a 101-91 win over lowly New Jersey. All five Clippers starters scored in double figures, led by Blake Griffin’s 23 points and 14 rebounds.
Before beating New Jersey, the Clippers had impressive home wins over Miami and the Los Angeles Lakers. However, an early soft schedule is clearly getting more difficult.
Griffin will not have it so easy against Utah’s stacked frontcourt. Jazz forward Paul Millsap is coming off scoring 16 points in the fourth quarter on his way to 26 in Sunday’s 106-96 win at Denver.
Said Jazz leading scorer Al Jefferson (18.4 ppg) of Millsap’s performance, “I’m just glad I don’t have to guard him.”
Millsap (15.6 ppg) will have to get into the zone again as Utah is also shorthanded. Derrick Favors is doubtful (sprained right ankle) and Josh Howard (strained left quadriceps) is day-to-day.
