CHICAGO — Derrick Who? For now, the Bulls starting point guard is a fifth-year player who has spent his entire career coming off the bench, where he’s carved a niche for himself as a dependable role player. In his second year in Chicago, he’s garnered his share of praise from coach Tom Thibodeau for his heady play, low turnover rate, serviceable defense and game management. He’s also seen his minutes reduced, and rightfully so, because he’s playing behind the game’s reigning MVP. And

Sheridan’s Sunday Power Rankings
The Memphis Grizzlies and the Houston Rockets are this week’s climbers, while those sinking like stones are headlined by the Knicks. I attended New York’s double-overtime loss to the Nuggets on Saturday night, which lasted a mere 3:04. It was like watching a parade of ghosts from the Knicks’ recent past. On one first quarter sequence, Carmelo Anthony blew past Danilo Gallinari but was rejected at the rim by Timofey Mozgov. In transition, Gallo fed Mozgov with a long pass into the
Stoudemire disappears, Harrellson out 6 weeks
NEW YORK – On Saturday night, things went from bad to worse for the New York Knicks. On the second night of a back to back, the Denver Nuggets came into Madison Square Garden and handed the Knicks their sixth consecutive loss, in double overtime. Danilo Gallinari scored a game high 37 points on a mere 19 field goal attempts and grabbed 8 rebounds. Al Harrington made some big shots down the stretch—including four 3-pointers—and grabbed 11 rebounds of his own. The
More Melodrama as reeling Knicks lose again
csprtContainer(); It was a long night for Carmelo Anthony. It began with a visit with George Karl, which ended a prolonged silence with his former coach. It continued with another poor shooting night and loss with the New York Knicks, which is becoming far too common lately. And it ended with accepting the blame for the team’s troubles and remaining defiant, which is his style, on and off the court. Facing the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night for the first time since forcing
Utah’s Derrick Favors fined $25,000 by NBA
On Jan. 31, Derrick Favors will have an extra deduction from his paycheck. Late in the third quarter of Thursday’s loss to Dallas, the forward of the Utah Jazz threw a ball into the stands in disagreement with an offensive foul call. His immediate punishment was ejection from referee Matt Boland. On Saturday, the NBA decided Favors needed further discipline and fined him $25,000. The fine came from NBA VP of Violence Stu Jackson, who has been remarkably inactive this season. Gotta love
Kravitz Fantasy Basketball Top 5 Players and Sleepers after Week 4
The random luck of picking league owner names out of a hat for draft positions has always been the bane of my fantasy basketball existence. Each year upon receiving the e-mail with the draft order results from one of my two leagues’ commissioners, you’ll typically read my team’s moniker, “Krewtime”, between sixth and ninth in either nine-team league. Lebron James was the first selection in both our 8-CAT and 9-CAT league drafts, and he’s more than lived up to that status.
Tonight’s best game: Denver at New York
Saturday’s matchup between the Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks could wind up being a referendum on the Carmelo Anthony trade, the tipping point of the impatience of success-starved fans at Madison Square Garden, and the end of the line for Mike D’Antoni. For the Knicks, who are 20-27 including the playoffs since acquiring Anthony last February, the tension will be palpable. For the Nuggets, who are 30-16 since the deal, it is an ideal spot to send a not so
Report: Kobe Bryant loses 3 houses, $75 million in divorce
Many years ago, I was covering a game at Madison Square Garden and was speaking to Grant Hill just a few days after he announced that he was engaged to be married to the pop singer Tamia. Hill was asked if he received any advice from Michael Jordan, to which he nodded affirmatively. “He told me to get a pre-nup,” Hill said. “That’s what he told me: Get a pre-nup.” I do not know if Hill ever got
