The Atlanta Hawks are running out of centers.
Already without Al Horford – perhaps for the rest of the season – the Hawks announced Saturday morning that veteran center Jason Collins will miss at least two weeks with a sprained left elbow.
Collins suffered the injury in Thursday’s loss to Memphis, which dropped Atlanta to 9-3 since Horford went down with a torn pectoral muscle. Horford is not expected back until mid-April.
Collins was averaging 1.0 points and 1.6 rebounds in 13.0 minutes. He was not starting but was providing his usual solid low-post defense behind Zaza Pachulia.
Without Collins on Thursday, the Hawks had trouble defending Grizzlies center Marc Gasol. Pachulia is the only center on Atlanta’s roster right now.
Available in free agency are Joel Przybilla, Kyrylo Fesenko and Erick Dampier.
