The Oklahoma City Thunder may have revenge on their minds.
On Jan. 3, the Thunder took their only home loss of the season, a 103-93 setback to the Portland Trail Blazers. On Monday night, the Thunder visit the Trail Blazers in the NBA’s best game.
There are just four teams with one home loss: Chicago (9-1), Oklahoma City (9-1), Portland (11-1) and San Antonio (13-1), which handled Oklahoma City in a 107-96 victory Saturday night.
That was the opener of a five-game road trip for the Thunder (18-5), who still have the NBA’s best record but have been much more vulnerable on the road.
At home, Oklahoma City averages 102.3 points while shooting nearly 51 percent overall and better than 40 percent from the arc. On the road, those numbers drop to 98.2 points, .444 overall and .319 from deep.
For the Blazers, the differences are even more pronounced. At home, Portland averages 105.8 points while shooting 47 percent overall and 36 percent from the arc. Those figures fall to 90.7 points, .417 overall and .274 from 3-point range.
The Blazers are coming off Saturday’s 117-97 home rout of the Denver Nuggets in which Nicolas Batum hit a franchise-record nine 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 33 points.
Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge and Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant are two of just three NBA players averaging over 23 points and shooting better than 50 percent. LeBron James is the other.
There will be a handful of fans who remember that Portland used the top pick in the 2007 draft on Greg Oden, who has been limited to 82 games in an injury-riddled career. Oklahoma City – then known as the Seattle SuperSonics – then took Durant, a two-time scoring champion and MVP candidate.
Portland point guard Raymond Felton (left foot sprain) is questionable.
